Geoff Johnston, a deeply respected and beloved educator who spent over three decades shaping young minds at A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts, has passed away in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was a longtime resident and teacher in the Palm Beach County School District.
For 33 years, Geoff was more than an English teacher — he was a guiding force, a philosophical thinker, and an unwavering source of wisdom and warmth for thousands of students. He retired just last year, closing the final chapter on a remarkable career devoted to education and human connection.
Dreyfoos School of the Arts shared their sorrow with the school community, writing:
“We are heartbroken to share the passing of beloved English teacher Geoff Johnston. For 33 years, Geoff shaped the lives of Dreyfoos students with his passion for literature, thoughtful conversations, and love for teaching. Many of our current staff were once his students, a true testament to his legacy.”
Known for his introspective teaching style and genuine care for his students, Mr. Johnston brought the written word to life and challenged students to think deeply about the world around them. His classroom was a place of exploration — of literature, of philosophy, and of self.
Former student Michael Joseph reflected:
“Mr. Johnston was one of those rare philosophical teachers who brought insight to the world beyond the curriculum. I’m grateful to have had him as a teacher, and my heart goes out to his loved ones. 🕊️”
Geoff’s quiet wisdom and thoughtful presence extended beyond the classroom. He left a lasting impact on colleagues, many of whom were once his students. His legacy is not just found in textbooks or essays, but in the minds and hearts of those he inspired — students who learned to think critically, care deeply, and engage meaningfully with the world.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
In the halls of Dreyfoos and in the memories of countless students, Geoff Johnston’s spirit lives on — a teacher, a mentor, a gentle soul who made education a lifelong gift.
